The shapeshifter was the original Jekyll & Hyde. What we call the Werewolf, the Lycanthrope, is the expression of the unfettered beast within taking complete control, bending not only the mind but the physical body itself. Doctor Carl Jung, eminent psychologist from days gone by, would call it Identifying with the Archetype.

Doctor Jung also said that women had a.... well, a Masculine aspect of her Self, only buried in her unconscious. He called it the Animus. Now, I don't know about Male Shapeshifters, but I have a theory about Female ones: that the Beast Within that takes over is her own Animus: her Masculine Self, sort of run amok.

It is interesting to note that one definition of "Animus" reads "strong dislike or enmity; hostile attitude; animosity", and, personally; my own Animus is something I would never want to meet alone in a dark alleyway. Vicious, profane, seething with rage and full of insane, irrational hatred, both inward and out. I don't believe Good wins out over Evil. Especially in the unconscious realms of a shattered soul.

Those are a few things to keep in mind, if you decide to continue reading this story.

My animus is a product of my environment. I.e I blame society for it.
